The world’s first Pop-Up Play Shop has been an incredible success so far - welcoming over a thousand people across the threshold, being featured in the South Wales Echo and the BBC, and enjoying tremendous local support from individuals and organizations. It has converted a shop that stood empty for 6 years into a free to access, all ages play space, offering recreation and respite for children and families right in the centre of Cardiff.
All this is now under threat, from a different branch of the same Council that made it possible in the first place!
You can help keep the Pop-Up Play Shop open and free for all to visit and enjoy:
- Sign our petition!
- Email Robert Graham at brates@cardiff.gov.uk and call the Business Rates department at 029 2087 1326 to let them know that you believe the Pop-Up Play Shop should be given the full possible 100% rates relief
- Forward this email to your friends and contacts, through every network you can
- If you’re a Cardiff resident, contact your local representatives, and let them know that saving the Pop-Up Play Shop is important to you, as a tax payer and as a voter!

Guys this is seriously one of the best uses for an empty high street shop I’ve seen. A place for people of all ages to come and create using a variety of different materials FOR FREE in the local community! A place for mothers with young children to go so their kids can let off some steam and they can re-connect with their arty sides for an hour or so, a place for teenagers to express themselves without being on the streets or painting on walls (to get pointlessly arrested and fined) a great place for students and those working in craft/art/decor/animation/props to get FREE materials and to meet other creative people!
GET ON THIS! Get to Cardiff and come hang out with Morgan (who is a lovely woman) and myself sometimes haha! Hopefully if we can keep this going more will appear across the country! We need more stuff like this!
